I feel I just wasted my time....

Why would someone come here and ask for our help (so he can sell his product better), and give us a watermark product to work with?

I'm gonna let it render... but might as well watermark my stuff so nobody can use it for selling purposse

Here's my render, slightly modified version of the one I posted on CGTalk.com... although it's a wip, it's still a render (I have little chance of finishing it soon..), hopefully I can get one of those free hdri's.. would be nice.

edit; as mentioned before, this is not a Maxwell render, but Brazil.. but since there's no images here yet I thought I might as well post mine.. watermark didn't bother me.

edit2; thought I might mention that I modified my render in Photoshop to give it some of that old 70's style photography look. The original render was much less yellow filtered.

Wanted to see what a material would look like with this hdr.

Looks really nice, great hdr image!

Cool, well I'll be selecting my hdri image tomorrow :) Hmm, I should really try and get those shaders to look right in Maxwell and just transfer my project to Maxwell.. so far my attempts have been kind of unsuccesful.

What are your hdri intensities? Did you do any image processing to the hdri before you used it in Maxwell?
So far my hdri renders in Maxwell seem kind of dull, maybe I'm not trying enough ;)

This particular hdr comes out too dark in Maxwell so I simply set the intensity of the hdr for all channels to 5. No tweaks or processing.

My render was made in Brazil, I used the linear colorspace workflow as described in these documents.. it might be common knowledge for the pro's, but for me it was an eyeopener in combination with hdri's.. they always used to come out too dark and saturated for me until I found these pages:

part 1: http://www.xsi-blog.com/?p=41
part 2: http://www.xsi-blog.com/?p=44
part 3: http://www.xsi-blog.com/?p=45

These cover XSI, but same tricks apply in other software.

Mihai, thanks, seems I probably just didn't hit the sweet spot when it come to those intensities.. still, I think it would be good if Maxwell had some kind of option to set a hdr to a certain f-stop value before using it, with some kind of preview window of the hdr, as in hdrshop. Maybe that's not really feasible though because the render camera might be set differently... (nevermind this public braindump)

I still haven't rendered anything with this hdri, it's too freakin huge :) but that's a good thing! however i have a scrapped model i can offer for you guys to play with if you wanna.. not the most complex models but it's the old Spock head i made, have fun with it using this hdri and some good looking mxm's.

Not much of a material test, but still pretty I think. It's Jotero's Ajax model, I see it popping up on more and more 3d sites. Anyways, the material used here is an anisotropic metal material. Looks a bit like metallic paint that has been sanded down actually.

Oh, and this was rendered in Maxwell 1.1

Ivo: Anytime :) if you like the model feel free to use it for testrenders, i don't mind.´But i shall still try to render something with your hdri, it gotta be resized down quite alot tho if that's ok. 2 gig ram runs out real fast when trying to work with this large hdri :D

Like you said, some materialtests would work aswell, i'll look into it.

Thanks :)

Good looking tests Dutch!

Max, I only have 1 Gb of ram and I can cope just fine :) Just remember, you only need the high-res hdri for your background/reflection/refraction channel. Make sure you get hdrshop and resize the hdr file to 600x300 and give it a gaussian blur of about 4. Resave to another file and use that for your illumination channel. This will make your renders much less noisy and much faster than if you would use the big one for lighting.

I didn't change the camera from its default settings, but I gave the hdr an intensity of 12 if I remember correctly.

ok thanks for explaining. actually I do copy the T[…]
