I really would like to know too.... I have been trying to figure out what is causing this to avoid it... but no luck

About the same time I did that render I also started getting the black triangles in random places. Part of the code used to create the geometry was building coplanar faces in some cases. Since I fixed that the black faces went away and I don't recall having the texture scrambling problem since then either.

Did you apply the textures to the face level or to the group / component?

For it to work right all the time you must apply to the face level.

I seem to be having the same problem. All textures applied at face level.

I've had the same problem in the last week. It wasn't reversed normals. I ungrouped the objects containing the problem materials and everything worked fine. Not ideal, just a workaround.

Might have worked that time but trust me it won't always mate!

Here is a fail safe workaround and your all not likely to be happy!

Make a component of your model copy it somewhere out of scene and presto all ok! If you have interior lights leave them out when making the component or render times will blow out.

Note for this to work every time DO NOT do any of the following:

1. Hide the new component,
2. Place the component on hidden layer,
3. Make either of the components unique!

For externals I copy the component to opposing the original to provide something to reflect in the windows.

Richard,

Thanks a lot for this post. I have been going nuts trying to figure out these random mixed up materials. I wish I would have read it 2 weeks ago.

I have tried your method on two different models and it is working great. Any idea as to what causes the materials to get scrambled?

thanks again

Mate I'm pretty sure it is a SU born issue and not something as a result of export.

I know for sure the issue of texture break up is something that has existed in SU for some time and something that has baffled the gurus at @last for some time!

I have seen it happen in JPG export direct from SU as well and yes quite often. Most of the time it is hidden due to the limited quality of SU export.

Let's just pray one day they get it nailed!

"To God we pray that those at @last get the texture breakup nailed one day! To God we pray that Richard never finds one day he's gay!"

If we all say this each night before we go to bed we will be guaranteed the world will remain a good or better place!
