I did it, the truth was a nightmare, not easy or intuitive, I write in case someone needs in the future.
Attribute Editor does not work
The Channel Box does not work
Hypershade does not work.

The only way to connect the nodes is with the
Connection Editor:

MaxwellLayeredMaterial -> to mxVolumetricObect1
Shade color -> to mxBackfaceMaterial

I found that best way to assign a maxwell material to grass or volumetrics (which are so slow to render that are useless actually) is to use the maxwell "assign material to selection" shelf button immediately after creating the grass or volume node (with the buttons from the same shelf) before pressing any other command.
