Everything related to Maxwell Render and General Stuff that doesn't fit in other categories

Hello everyone, we wanted to install the new Maxwell 5 today and provide the licenses via our existing RLM server, which already works fine for the Maxwell 4 licenses. Unfortunately that did not work...

1st problem:
For version 5 and 4 we have two different .lic files that have the same name (maxwell_archicad.lic). These cannot be located together in the same folder (Users / Shared / NextLimit / rlm_nl / Licenses). We have then created a subfolder "/ v5" to store the .lic file for version 5 there (as an interpretation of Fernando Tella´s post regarding the changes in the rlm license files location) . Maxwell does not find this folder in the activation process.
The name of the new .lic file was assigned during the activation process on the Portal / Nextlimit page. Can you rename these files? Or is there another way to place the new license file for version 5 side by side with the v4 licenses there?

2nd problem:
The attempt to place the license on the RLM server (on the remote computer) via the license activator also failed. You can start the login on the remote computer and enter our login details for the Nextlimit portal and the activation key. But then it says: Connection Error! Cannot validate license. Please visit our support site ....

3rd problem:
Do we need to set up a new RLM Server since there is a new installer in der V5 package that we downloaded to install the Maxwell 5 engine and plugin?

4th problem:
We want to use both mac and pc clients with the same rlm server. Are there any special advices for the host ID name system ? Right now we use the server only with mac computers and use the IP address system (numeric xxx.xxx.x.xx). But if we want to access the RLM hosting mac from the new pc computers we have to enter the MAC-address since the IP address does not work....

Hi Alex,

I'll try to answer problem by problem, ok?

1st prob.
You can rename the new license file to whatever name you want, provided it has the extension .lic. You can place the v5 license file in the same folder (/Users/Shared/NextLimit/rlm_nl/Licenses) as the v4 licenses. Actually, the license files used by the RLM server can have any name with .lic extension.
The v5 folder is located in /Users/<username>/Maxwell/v5, for maxwell 5 or studio 5 to find who will provide a license. It can be either a nodelocked license file or a file that points to a license server.

2nd prob.
If i understood it right, the license activator app does not copy the license file to a remote license server. It saves it in a local file and the sysadmin or who is in charge of the license server should copy it to the appropriate folder (if it's a Mac, /Users/Shared/NextLimit/rlm_nl/Licenses) in that machine. The "connection error" message is because licenseactivator tries to connect to the rlm server in the same machine it is running. If rlm is running on a remote machine there's no way it can access it.

3rd prob.
If rlm has been working ok up unitl now, there's no need to upgrade.

4rd prob.
Can you check if the rlm server machine has a firewall running? It's very strange that you can only access it from Win pcs using the mac-address. I've tried to do that here and it doesn't work , all i get is :
WARNING: - Couldn't get license for maxwell_node, error code was :
WARNING: - Bad server hostname in license file or port@host
I'd be truly interested in seeing how do you do that.

Hope this helps.
