the idea alone about filling up the picture again with green color is worth tons of gold !!!
very useful.

now we need a new grass contest ! so the mxmboard will be filled with all kinds of weeds and grasses !!!

thanks great tutorial... i use this from an old 3d Total tutorials [volume 10] but i always found it a bit limiting in terms of having to adjust view in order to avoid 'blank' gaps and also found the rendering times quite high. Don't know for sure if it was down to the fact it had so many clips to work out...
Tutorial is very nicely put together many thanks

Wow thanks alot. Thats the best looking grass I have ever seen using Maxwell.

One question tough. Did you copy/paste all of the grass planes by hand or did you write an automated script to do this? It seems like a hell of a job doing it by hand... :?:

MILD HIJACK: :)

SunlightRocker: I've been working on a similar script for a while now. It's a slightly different process than shown here, but the results are very similar. At the moment it works, but is very slow, so I may have to rewrite it as a plugin. I'll post it when its ready.

Cheers,
Dr Merman

thanks a lot for the nice tutorial, again... !

i thought i'd do a pleasure for all using maya. 8)

-->
i just finished a nice script that randomizes things exactly the way one needs it to create large amounts of such grass-polys.

it has some settings, well prepared for this task !!

i'll post it now in the maya section...

HAVE FUN ! :P

certainly a little.

You can make a test with or with out SSS in the same scene... it just is more realistic, of course.

Hello every body & many thanks for all your sweet comments ;)

i'll try to answer questions

@SunlightRocker : thanks ;) for the clip duplication i mostly use array cloning, copying the result to another layer & turning it to make the grass looks good from any way, it is a very quick process, 5 min. As we are working with LW here, when the carpet is done, we only have to duplicate it on the scene to cover the grass area. We mostly have about 100K poly of grass-clip on a garden of an house which is quite resonnable as we often go to 3M poly per scene. So, no script used, only basic LW functions. The deadalvs script will surelly be a great add to this tuto.

@Leo : The SSS probably increases a bit the render time, but definatly gives the final touch to the grass, especially when it comes to the grass what takes directe sun light. An exterior scene clean fast, SL 12 is in most cases enough to be noise free, and on ours 3800X², it is an overnight render (6-10H) to reach SL12 in 3K resolution => A4 print

@ilia.ms : i though you'll have to do it bye yourselft, as the tutorial is made to improve your skill, i "only" give you the way to follow. If you dont want your join to be visible, make carpets entering in others a little, don't adjust them to perfectly follow carpet borders, it will avoid any gap & become like 1 piece. (sorry as my english isn"t perfect too, so this is the best way i found to explain it), maybe someone could who anderstood can explain you that in a more elegant way.
