Hey guys!

Im total beginner at maxwell and not used allready to the forum. So if the topic is already answered somewhere, sorry for asking again

I was wondering which resolution should be picked to get a good picture to print on DinA 4?

In the Scene Manager there are a few options (for example 1280 x 1024...) available but which is the best one?
Is "film back" where you can choose the size (w/h) relevant for rendering a picture (or only for animation)?


Would be nice if someone could help me out

It depends on what dpi (dots per inch) you intend to print at Usual high quality printing if it's ment to be viewed close up is at 300dpi, and if you go into Photoshop and choose the A4 preset at 300dpi it's going to give you about 3500x2400 pixels. That's the resoultion you should render at. You can print at a smaller dpi setting if it's ment to be a banner viewed from say at least 1 meter, maybe 150 dpi so there is more space between the dots when printing and from the same 3500x2400 pixel render you have a print that's double in size.

Film back is ment to make it easier to match a render with a photo by matching the film or digital sensor size of a real camera because this size will affect the final focal length of the lens. You can read more about this in the online docs, Camera page.
