I think I saw this somewhere but I can't find it anywhere now, just to confirm; command line is not working on the mac yet, right?

mxcl gives a "~bash: mxcl: command not found" error.

I hope this is available soon, comes in very handy.

Thanks,

C4D, Lightwave and SketchUp.

I have used the options in the plug in, but at work, on a PC I have been able to render .mxs files outside of the 3D app and it workd out very well. It would be nice to run M~R outside of the app in the Mac too.

Yes, i guess that works. The nice thing Ihave liked about command line on the PC is that I can specify options like time, resolution, samples, etc that are different than I specified when I created the .mxs

For example, I set up a simple scene and rendered it for 10 minutes at 320x240 on my iBook until I liked what I saw, then put it on the PC at work, which has dual processors and is much faster, but I have no C4D on the PC, only MAC.

Then I can run a dos window and run: mxcl -mxs:(filename) -res:800x600 -t:9999 -sl:25 -th:4 -o:(filename)

Or I can set up a batch file that will render several versions of that same .mxs file to do tests.

Maybe there is a way to manipulate the options in another way on the Mac.

Thanks for all the help, this is good,

When I try ddraggin the mxcl application icon and running mxcl I get the following message and the app does not work.

-bash: /Applications/maxwell.app/: is a directory

Any further ideas?

Note that I tried it both dragging the maxwell.app and mxcl within the package into the terminal.

Thanks.

As adehus mentioned above dragging files to the terminal window generates the path to the file - you still need to enter the mxcl command and its parameters manually.

OK so I got the paths thing down... kind of... The only way I can get mxcl to start up is to have the .mxs file in the same folder as the mxcl application. I am pretty sure that is not that desirable. However, when I do, I get the renderer to start up and it returns almost imediately this message:
-----------
>> Starting Render

>> Start Voxelization...
>> End Voxelization...

>> Render STOPPED by user

Render finished successfully :)

-----------

So I do not know how I stopped it but that is what it thinks. There is also no output file at all.

I am on an iBook G4 1.33 Ghz and 512MB of RAM. (I know, but if I can get this up and running reliably and do some billable work I'll spring for the dual G5)

Thanks,
D
