2nd edit: This issues is fixd with the 0.6c version of the Cinemaxwell plugin.

EDIT:
This crash seems to be mostly fixed for scenes of medium complexity with the version 0.6b of the plugin, which was released 5th of July.

There is one scene that still crashes at that time, but i have to check if the Phong tag is to blame, and if so - how to strip it down to a valid test scene.

Cinemaxwell 0.6 and Maxwell OS X crashes reproducibly on certain scenes, even very simple ones like the one I posted earlier here: http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 4485#42174

The Crash happens a few seconds after Voxelisation is finished and before rendering starts. Now with the 0.6 version of the plugin i noticed something strange on scenes that work, which happens exactly at the time these other scenes crash:
The caption of the "Render options" Tab changes - to some text that is specific to the scene! This is a clear indication that something is assigned to the completely wrong object (Hackers...). I take an educated guess that the crashing scenes assign something here that takes maxwell down.

Thanks for pointing that out - though this cure does not work every time ;-)

I know that it is more or less dependant on the whole scene, but not on scene complexity or certain features. You can change even simple parameters like the camera angle to decide if the scene should crash or not.

However, if you have found a crashing setup, then it will crash reliable every time. It's what is assigned to the "render options" tag... on some scenes, the app survives, on others it's taken down.

Kabe I download your file and tested. The problem is the FAMOUS phong tag, delete it and hit render.
I tested with the different lighting setup (Physical sky only"NO CRASH", Physical sky with Sun light"NO CRASH", Sky dome"NO CRASH")
So NL team PLEASE pay HUGE attention on phong tag PLEASE. :D

Gooood catch!!

Actually this clearly has to do with it - I was able to avoid the crash completely by removing a single phong tag fro the scene!

Also I was able to boild the crash scene down to 4 Polygons!
Download Cinema file here, render with default sun:

C'mon, NL, get that green slimy beast that is presented to you on the silver platter here...

Kabe can you repost the link for this phong tag issue, I cannot get it from your previous post.

I am rendering the first scene that Kabe posted and it works and renders fine without crash on my PC system and that is with sun and sunlight activated in the environmment tab.

I confirm that this seems so far to be specifically related to MaxOSX computers.

Okay, I tested this file with a landscape object as 3ddrone had described in the cinema 4d forum. I could not confirm this one with the phong tag on a pc system.

There seems to be two problems causing crashes as they relate to the OSX engine.

I would recommend that a separate post be created in this forum which describes the phong tag problem with the 1.2.2a engine.

I changed the thread subject, however it's really pointless to create another message for this problem.

I have created 2 simple example files in this thread alone and posted one earlier for 0.5. jc4d and 3ddrone have nailed it down to a phong tag problem, which was later confirmed by me. Also I have that observation that the interface changes with working files at the same time which points to a problem with that weird framework they use for the interface. You have confirmed that it is a OS X issue, which also points that it might be a variable scope problem with the interface. This is more information that is needed here. If they still give a shit, so be it.

Well, it is mostly fixed. However, the Basilika is crashing due to the Phong tag. I try to strip down the scene to a good size.

Phong tag is a specific tag of C4D.
The Phong tag enables phong shading to smooth out surfaces on your models.
