Well I got it working easily on OSX 10.4.1 G4 1Ghz with Lightwave 8.2
I have some questions and concerns as well. when rendering I have reached level five and my scene gets darker! same scene as alpha one but I end up going to black. anyone have this happen? I mean setting are the same, and since there is only one way to physically produce results, it should be the same too.
what is CL Options?
where did number of bounces go?
Where low quality option went? is that replaced with the preview?
I can't for the life of me find SSS, anyone else?
what does RAZC stand for?
What is the Image/MXI tab for?
some crasing when done.
frustration, I know this is beta, but I was expecting better performance/results. Maybe starting over would be better?

Image/MXI tab - import images as MXI?

A lot of crashing not only when done, but during rendering. Can't render any scene over level 4-5.

Starting over would not be better, but calling this a beta is just a marketing buzz. It's neither nearly feature complete nor mostly working according to the specs.

Thanks Kabe, here 's also another problem, which i think is why I am getting my scenes to become black. This is a normal diffuse surface, nothing else. It renders black and the bounces start affecting the surroundings.

and you're right, crashing is happenning all the time. sad!

This is really frustrating. I wish we were informed that the OSX version is going to be behind in quality and features, although I believe in maxwell's capabilities, i think their OSX support till now is really weak. I hope they can get it to the windows level so we can use it and the same features. Now wehre the heck is the sss!

I have the same problem with the diffuse material. All my scenes are turning black!
I reverted back to Alpha + LW plug 0.14 and everything is rendering fine.
That's really disappointing :( ...

First One is Aplha 1.1.33, second one is from beta:

However, old scenes made by Noseman (with Maya I think) are rendered normally with the Beta.
So it seems that the problem is related to the LW plug 0.15...

And by the way, memory footprint is 4 time heavier with the beta on my Mac!

Maybe the heavy footprint is related to the crashes? I have 2.5 GB, and can not render even the most simple scenes.

not only diffuse, but also plastic and with no shader applied. Also any texture on emitters will cause instant crash. So let me see, I can use glass, metal and normal emitters. so every single feature of the beta is not usable to me! thats great. oh except the 4x speed difference when you get a scene with only three types of materials going. Call me in October!

Let me rephrase that, neither glass nor emitters are working for me. So unless I live in robot land with metal everything, this is a horrible nightmare. Now where did I put that alpha file?

same problems more or less here... a lot of random crashes, test projects geometry rendered black (working in alpha version), no SSS feature available in the LW plugin. :(

I'm having the same problem as Yazan... even simple renders rapidly develop a case of black pixel-itus when testing the beta using LW 7.5 ... this occurs on PC also.

Actually N&B, if you are reffering to the Focus model, it was done from Max plugin.
Sad to say that the 3DS max plugin is way ahead from the others.

Oh well.... back to waiting!

I also had blackholes in the alpha version, in the beginning it looked allright but after a few passes it was getting blacker and blacker, a real lightsucker!
