Okay I thought I gave up hours ago, but still human nature persists.

I to have been somewhat sucessful.
Only if I import an ".obj" from lightwave (all as Tri polygons).
Bring it into that life saver app "UVX"
Eported the model as an ".obj"
Bring in the model with all its individual parts. I think this is something to do with the UV map from UVX.

Anyways this is the only way so far of getting a model from LW into mxStudio.

I've never understood why Lightwave does not export UV Normals. I'm guessing that this has something to do with it? You probably could also bring a Lightwave exported .OBJ through Poser, as Poser (like UVMapper) also adds the UV Normal info. Just open both a LW exported .OBJ and a UVX or Poser exported .OBJ in a text editor (just export a simple object like a tripled cube) and you will see what I mean.

Keep on trucking Mac/LW users - and everyone else chuggin up the learning curve.

Also - the problem I posed above about UV maps not rendering - my machine at home, Mac dual 1.25 G4, OSX 10.4.4. does not have a problem rendering the UV maps. WTF? Oh well.

Most Application that export surface normals just interpolate them from the
normals of the attached faces, which is of limited use.

You usually need vertex normals in two specific cases:
* Patches forming continuous surfaces but belonging to different objects
* faces which form definite edges between faces in the same object

Normals are an optional element of the OBJ format and many OBJs don't
use them, whcih is ok IMO.

Yes I saw that issue about the colour picker, at first I just thought that the people at next Limit just see things in the opposite to what is, such as good colour picker & good customer feedback ;-)

Another issue I have noticed in the mxStudio if in the perspective window you select the qad setup.
The for the other three windows set it to 2D.
Then in the individual windows you set to Top/Right/Front.
There is no indication as to which window you are in.
They all just say "Ortho View" -

While this is not a bug, it would sure be nice if you could click on a camera in the camera list and go to that camera instead of going to the menu above and selecting.

Also, is there a way to turn off the other cameras so that the lines that indicate the camera view point aren't intefering with your view from the current camera. Too many lines sometimes.

im not sure this is a osx or a cinemaxwell bug so i post it in both forums

i have made a cube in c4d and textured it but its black on the rendering
http://xs.to/xs.php?f=test06-1.jpg&h=xs64&d=06030

then i duplicated the cube and the first created cube is textured on the rendering
http://xs.to/xs.php?f=test06-2.jpg&h=xs64&d=06030

now i made a 3rd object, a sphere and its black on the rendering
http://xs.to/xs.php?f=test06-3.jpg&h=xs64&d=06030

dont matter how many objects u made one always still black
http://xs.to/xs.php?f=test06-5.jpg&h=xs64&d=06030

Check my topic, projectors.
I guess i have solved the problem with the textures. The solution is pretty simple, after having loaded the map, you have to double click the reflectance color and set it to white. You have to import yor scene into studio to do so, anyway. Hope this could help

I asked this question in another thread. I didn't get an answer, so I'm assuming you can't.

Hello Everybody,

Just received this email from NextLimit.
I hope you find it useful.

"hi,

the lightwave format we support is just one object per .lwo file without layers. This is being fixed right now to support all the plethora of goodies that lwo format has. What are the formats that Sketchup exports? Obj files can be very quirky, each platform ( modo, cinema, maya, xsi) has its own policy about grouping of objects inside the file, and we are trying to figure out most of them to load properly. This will be made via an options panel for importing.

The cameras must be moved using the numeric fields in the camera parameter window, but we will add support for graphic manipulators.
The yellow bug is persisting, no matter what we do. It seems to be a Mac only "feature", but switching to Textured Decal and then to Preview gives a correct image.

regards and sorry for all these problems"

On a different but bug-related topic - I have noticed that if I use studio and try to lauch a render to MXCL via the "render" button, nothing happens if I disable "Low Priority" mode in the Render options within studio. As soon as I check the "Low Priority" box again and hit the render button, everything works fine.

maybe this might help some people who can't seem to get MXCL to launch from within studio.
