Everything related to Maxwell Render and general stuff that doesn't fit in other categories.

So it is currently not possible in Maxwell to select a GPU for rendering? Really?

What makes me even more sad than not fully working GPU version, is slower CPU engine than V3 has :|

When V4 will be at least same speed then I'll switch...

Really? WTF. For productivity reasons, you really can't be rendering on the same GPU that you're running your monitor off of. V4 just keeps looking worse and worse.

CPU speed will be improved on 4.0.0.8. Still not as optimized as V3, but we are getting near. As for card selection we are working on it, as should be one of the first new features to be in.

Gosh that is quite worrying.. Even in CPU it won't be as good as Maxwell 3?

I try to stay positive and up beat about all this as I know in the end you guys will succeed in the end but sometimes it is hard.

I was trying to render an animation over the weekend using Maxwell 4 (the main reason I bought it), I hit so many hurdles and problems that have not been fixed that I gave in and upgraded my Octane license.

I really hope I will be able to use Maxwell 4 in production soon... At present it seems like a 600 euro door stop..

Sorry lack of sleep and frustration kicking in...

Rant over...

Maxwell 4 has the same features, it's just that for the time being it is slower than V3 but it looks like this will be fixed soon and it will be at the same speed (or almost) as V3. I'm sure other features will be added soon, besides GPU, but right now it looks like they are concentrating on making the GPU renderer as complete as possible - which I think most people are expecting and hoping.

Hi Mihai

For me the GPU is the most important so that is great. At present it is missing some key features that make it hard to work with. Although I have done a couple of really nice renders at a very fast speed.

Hopefully we will see some nice progress in the next few months.

BTW your Basics and Beyond training series is fantastic!!

Cheers

Neil

i tried with very smal hdr : 65ko but the same problem
other render engine which use gpu worked fine
check the console log, see if there is some warning or errors. might be the non supported additive material.

Volumetric extension can easily crash Maxwell Studio.

Tested on Windows 7 x64, Maxwell 4.0.0.8, Titan X (Maxwell architecture)

1. launch Studio, right-click in viewport Object- Create extension object - Maxwell Volumetric
2. click on Fire (GPU is default, this should be changed or at least user should decide what should be default for Fire)
3. crash
