Sounds like the problem is system freeze & not crash - which does not give you the option to do anything but force re-start and thus no crash report dialogue.
Am fairly sure it's linked to graphics cards, I had a similar issue on an older mac pro but with another graphics card which only arose with the later 10.5 updates. Updating to snow leopard fixed it.
And no V2 does not only run on snow leopard - it ran fine on my macbook pro with 10.5.8 and on other testers mac pro units.
