Thanks for the nice words John, and thanks to all for your patience :)

SW has provided an impressive support these months and we know that animation and textures support will come, we just hope it is sooner rather than later!

We continue working in future updates of the plugin and very soon we will begin to work with SolidWorks 2008, looking for the new features to try to get the most of them.

Kind regards,

Juan

:D I'd really love to know your country, it seems it's one of the most marvellous places in the world (also the maxwell team is full of Tolkien'freaks hehe).. it is so far away but let's see. If one day I can go I am glad to accept your invitation and I will pay the 2nd one :)

Help Juan - it does not install correctly -

I've sent through an email to your sales - but here is my problem

"Just downloaded the SW plugin and extracted to the following folders
and copied the "swmaxwell" to the "images" folder.

I first uninstalled the existing dll from solidworks and then closed
solidworks.

When running setup got the following two errors

ERROR 1904
c/program file/nextlimit/maxwell/plugins/solidworks/maxwell2007.dll
failed to install HRESULT -2147220473

ERROR 1904
same as above for SWMaterials

However install completed and said was OK.

I then opened up Solidworks 2006 and 'open' the Maxwell2007.dll but
an error window came up saying Maxwell could not be registered
properly. Same thing happens when I open SW and then tick the Maxwell2007 box in the add-in list"

Any ideas for a solution - looked for a new dat file but can't find one so left old one in place.

Now tried to install on my Win XP computer with sw2007

Installs without all the problems that are above - but when I open SW , it still asks for Maxwell2006 plugin - even though it is not ticked. Then Maxwell menu appears and can make settings - but when I press the render button - RUN TIME ERROR - Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library - Solidworks.exe

Just noticed in the Maxwell dialogue box - Render settings tab , the MXS, MXI and command Line has text in it that is scrabbled - load of %$%*$£*glgfasd97898728- etc and I can't change it to correct paths. Now I can - deleted the rubbish and the could change the paths.

Oh Dear :(

This XP and SW2007 is very clean and untouched as its on my laptop that I just use for meatings etc .

John - you have been lucky this time :D

No Materials in the task Pane.

Have copied and pasted the swmaxwell folder into the Images folder - Do I copy the cointents of the swmaxwell folder into the images folder? I tried this but it asked to overwrite some files so I declined.

Hi Jonatan,

I was going to reply you by mail but perhaps it is more useful to do that here so the rest of users can get access to the solution.

During the installation two dlls (swmaterials.dll and maxwell2007.dll) have to be registered. It seems that the registration process fails in in your system
- Which OS are you using? Windows XP proffessional?
- Did you update your OS with the last service packs?
- are you running the installer using an user account without permissions or do you have administrator permissions?

I have searched what means ERROR 1904. It seems that some systems have a protection against hidden execution of code. Here is it a description and the workaround.

http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=kn ... ow&d=28065

There is a second and easier workaroundg here (actually I dont think it solves the issue)
http://www.coveo.com/en/support/techcor ... 220473.htm

I will make more tests to see what's going on.

Juan

Hello Juan - sorry to spoil your party

The version that will not register is on an win2000 prof and running sw2006 - This is my work horse computer , but if can't run on win2000 and sw2006 I can accept that as I will be moving on soon.

I tend to do all my renderings on my WIN XP Pro version 2002 service pack 2 and is using SW2007 sp0.0

Maxwell loaded onto this machine without incident - except as outline above - *)&0877sdfheh hwery89249 - garbage text still appears in the MXS, Image and Command lines when I restart. Seems a langauge bu perhaps but my machine is set to English (UK) and so is the keyboard.

This machine now suffers a RUN TIME error and crashes out when I hit the render button.

Ok, just checking..

- so you can see the Maxwell menu item in the main menú ok?
- And also you can see the Maxwell task pane tab in the Task Pane, right?
- Did you install the plugin in the same folder that Maxwell and Maxwell Studio?
- Which Service pack of SW2007 have you installed?

Please follow this steps (first close SW):

0- Please check that in the plugin installation folder you have these dlls:
Maxwell2007.dll
swmaterials.dll
QtOpenGL4.dll
QtGui4.dll
AtCore4.dll
opengl32.dll
glu32.dll
msjava.dll

1- go to Start->Run.. and type "cmd". A command line window will be launched
2- type "cd [your solidworks plugin folder ]"
In my case I type
cd C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\plugins\solidworks
3- Type regsvr32 swmaterials.dll /u
(it will unregister the dll if it was registered)
4- Type regsvr32 Maxwell2007.dll /u
(it will unregister the dll if it was registered)
5- Type regsvr32 swmaterials.dll
(it will register the dll again)
6- Type regsvr32 Maxwell2007.dll
(it will register the dll again)
7. Start Solidworks.

If steps 5 or 6 fail an error message will be displayed and it means that due an unknown reason, this controls can not be registered in your system. If it happens, please post it here.

Thanks,

Juan

Ok, I'll do that :D
Please keep me updated. Actually I think that SP 0.0 could give some issues.

Thanks John _ I'll do that shortly

Now another F*****g problem - How I hate SW and its install procedures

I've tried to update through the update the SW link in the SW drop down Help menu - go through all the usual - turn off antivirus - The SW site takes over and walks me through it all asking for the CD and then prompting for files on the CD - verifies the licensce etec - spends 1 hour downloading sp2.2 - then spend another 30 minutes configuring Windows or something - then
----

says it can't find the Common0.cab file on the CD - :o :o argh - I sereach the CD and the other F****g 5 cds that come with SW2007 and there is no Common0.cab file - They are a bunch of jerks . 10 years I've had to put up with this crap from them. I thought it had all been solved for the last couple of years.

So I cancel the install and now my original SP0.0 does not F****g function. It starts to re-configue it and then just asks for CD1 - which is in the drive, but it just does not start it.

How do I get it to find CD1 ? when it is actually in the drive. I hit retry untill I will need medication.

Hi Jonatan,

SW installer has a known bug that does not allow to update directly from SP0.0 to the last one. First you have to update to SP0.1 or something like that... it almost kills me in SWW, fortunately a couple of SW guys helped me :D

Probably everything will work fine with SP0.1, so you wont need to upgrade 10 times today, the only one that gives problems is SP0.0.

Good luck!

Juan,

There is a conflict between the shift click to view Maxwell "Material Assignments" and shift click to select Transparent components in SolidWorks. This problem occurs when the "Enable selection through transparency" option is checked under SYSTEM OPTIONS/DISPLAY/SELECTION. Note normally in SolidWorks if "Enable selection through transparency" is unchecked the shift click combination allows the user to select through transparency.

I use the shift click to select Transparent components all the time in SolidWorks and there is no way to reassign the shift click combination functionality within SolidWorks.

Do a search in SolidWorks Help for "Enable selection through transparency" then Select Topic "Display and Selection Options". Near the end it states "Enable selection through transparency. When selected, you can select opaque objects behind transparent objects in the graphics area. When cleared, you can select the nearest object regardless of transparency. Press Shift when you select objects to temporarily override the option."
