Dear SolidWorks users,

We have upload the plugin for SolidWorks 2007 (32 bits). You can find more information and videos in this link

http://www.maxwellrender.com/index.php? ... w2007.html

Please download the packaging and read the installation steps. (basically you just need to run an installer and then move a folder with some images). If any of you have issues with the installation please post it here.

We are working in the 64 bits version right now and we hope to get it finished next week.

We hope you like the new plugin!

Kind regards,

Juan

I just gotta comment on these videos, and omg it looks great from what i can see  you guys been working hard on the implementation in SolidWorks. It looks so much better integrated now than any previous plugin released and for those who work with this program it should be tremendously helpful. I particulary like the part where you can assign Maxwell materials to specific surfaces on an object and to as a example a fillet on a object by simply dragging it and dropping it there. Really cool! :) now i'm envious of you SolidWorks users.

Good job!

Hi,

Just a minor note: It is strongly recommended that you update SolidWorks 2007 to the latest Service Pack. We have tested that it works fine from SP0.1 to SP2.3. SP 0.0 could give some problems.

:) we never use the public versions internally, we are making tests all the time and we have the UI full of this elements.

Cool. Thanks Juan. I have been playing with it for about 20 minutes so far. This seems much more integrated. I love the drag and drop, and the fact that the material editor area does not block the feature tree.

One quick suggestion. When I have a material and I make changes to it I have to hit save or it does not keep them. Would be nice if this just updated the material when I closed out the editior.

I noticed that emitters and dieletrics can be applied to surfaces and faces. Not that I would want to put a dielectric on a single surface face, but now I can put dielectrics with different roughness values to different faces of a solid. This is great.

All in all this seems to be a good direction for sure. Now if they will just give you access to decal in the sdk this will be very close to a complete and fully functional plugin. Thanks again for all the hard work! 8)

Edit: Apply maxwell color aspect does not appear to be working properly when you apply and remove materials from bodies and faces then put new ones back etc. The colors get all out of whack compared to what is actually on them. It works fine if you put it on a single body or face then never change it in some form or another.

Hmmm I cant seem to bring up the material assignment tree by shift clicking on an entity. Also at the end of that section of the manual it says emitters can only be applied to single bodies and not faces, but I tried just making a single surface and a face on a body an emitter and it worked fine.

Thanks for the feedback, it was planned for next updates.

It's strange, we've never see that issue here..
- perhaps it is an filters issue? the tree is only displayed when the entity selected is a face, component or body.
- which operative system are you using? We have tested it mostly in XP professional XP2. If you are using other OS I am wondering if the internal identifier for the shift key is different.. we will look into that tomorrow . If there is any issue, we will update a path as soon as possible.

It works. I was clicking in the wrong spot. I thought it meant shift click on the object in the feature tree not viewport. Wow this is very powerful way to manage materials. I like that there are multiple ways to do this, and not just one defined path to take for material editing and application.

Arggghhh !!!!!!!!!!!

I can't remember how to download the plugins - I went the main page and then clicked on the downloads "demos and plugins" it's asking me to fill in a form and then wait for a url in an email. I'm sure it didn't use to be this way - and I can't figure out how to download it.

Any help appreciated

Edit
It get's worse when I fill in the form to download the plugin I get the error screen below even though I have filled in the form in full, and there is no "Sector" section to the form.

If someone could email the plugin I'd very much appreciate it.

Juan,

It seems to be a problem using the new maxwell addin at the same time as the PDMWork Enterprise addin. We have a 100 % crash rate using them together. The problem seems to be relatet to the task pane during startup.

Othervise a great enhancement to the user interface. You have realy done a great job.

Kind Regards
Gunnar

Hello Gunnar,

Thanks for the feedback. We don't have PDMworks so it's going to be a bit difficult to debug it right now, but I am going to foward this issue to SW support, probably they can give me some clues.

Thanks again,

Juan
