Some pic's of a recent design job now launched.
Tried to get a fine bump texture but SW and Studio mapping not up to it!
Seems my only hope of getting a texture on it is with Maya but I am not sure if its mapping will work with studio.
The images are a bit dark but if I throw more light at it I lose the rich JCB yellow colour. Perhaps I will play a bit longer with the lighting setup.

Excellent work!!!!!!!!!!!

Maximus - It will be an extruded cut, this model will undoubtedly be used to manufacture the actual parts.

Thanks Sandykoufax, Max, John

Yes, the text is modelled for direct use in tooling.
All our models are optimised to speed the toolmakers job. This job was tooled in Taiwan in just four weeks.

I think Solidworks surfacing abilities are underrated; Disney characters to follow.

Love it. Looks like a photo to me. Nice design also.

Thanks Juan, Tom and Eric
I am pleased to say that RC5 is becoming an important part of our tool-set.
Most of the renders were between 2-3 hours, the glass isn't completely noise free, but pretty good.

Wow, A1 stuff! I'm impressed.

My only comment, on the first image it looks like the LCD display is on the wrong surface, ie the shadow appears to long. Maybe it's just me.

BTW hope I never need one LOL

Sandy, surely this will be for production eventually and somebodies got to model it!

Hi Olivier

The mesh is too dense because of the quality of output from SW and all the internal walls, components, seals etc.

As a piece of safety equipment everything except the surface mount components on the PCB are modelled so that all the development team fully understand the detailed juxtaposition of the parts.

Here are some shaded views.
I guess it would render in no time if I removed all but the external faces.

Ha thats funny. Believe me you dont want to see a mesh of production ready parts. Its not a pretty sight. It would be hard to tell what is even going on. Meshes only look nice inside 3d apps like max or c4d with perfect looking quads. I always sigh when I see these. They look so nice. SW parts only look nice in shaded view :(

Looks great Adman! One question though - for the lcd display did you cut the text into the display screen? From the backside maybe and then apply material other than glass to those faces?

Thanks,

Kandor

So, is this a known issue?
