Thanks Juan

These SW guys are a laugh - If there is a problem , the website should not default the upgrade as sp0.0 to sp2.2 . I just left it as it was. That is usually my policy - leave well alone when it come to SW instals. Well not this time obviously.

I don't go to SW world or I might go 'Postal' and gun them down - the jerks

I'll try and get my sp0.0 back first :D I suppose a 'repair' might work.

Now another F*****g problem - How I hate SW and its install procedures

I've tried to update through the update the SW link in the SW drop down Help menu - go through all the usual - turn off antivirus - The SW site takes over and walks me through it all asking for the CD and then prompting for files on the CD - verifies the licensce etec - spends 1 hour downloading sp2.2 - then spend another 30 minutes configuring Windows or something - then

Been there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I initially tried to upgrade my SolidWorks 2006 version to 2007 and had no problems, until I updated the SP to 2.2 arrrrrrrrrrrrrrhghghhg several hours later I checked the SolidWorks site and found (see below) note this "fix" did not work for me!!!!!!!!! I ended up un-installing SolidWorks completely and reinstalling. I had other problems reinstalling, kept getting error 1402, and had to edit the registry to fix it (let me know if you have this problem, I can save you a couple of hours work)

Solution Id:S-012870

Question:

Why am I prompted to insert disc 4 during my service pack installation of 2007 Service Pack 2.2? Why do I receive error 1311 when applying service pack 2.2? Why can the install not locate tb3.cab?

Answer:

This issue is currently under investigation by the SolidWorks Development team with SPR 356360. This can be caused by certain toolbox parts not being in the expected directory. An immediate solution to this issue is to download SP22_1311_error_fix.zip which is attached to this Solution.

WORKAROUND: Please extract the contents of the zip file in the attachment to: <TOOLBOX FOLDER>\Browser\ANSI Inch\washers\ then try the service pack installation again. (The path for <TOOLBOX FOLDER> can be found by browsing to your <install folder>\Toolbox directory, and viewing "toolbox.ini." The "ToolboxPartFolder=" paramater path should be used for <TOOLBOX FOLDER> in the above path)

Please refer to the SPR Look-up Subscription Services site for the latest status of this SPR. (http://www.solidworks.com/pages/service ... Notes.html)

If this does not resolve the issue, please contact your reseller assistance troubleshooting this issue.

The're are tossers.

I must say you are brave - upgrading sw2006 to sw2007. I never upgrade - always do a clean install.

Toolbox - what a piece of cr**. I never use it since when ever it came out -0 it always manages to screw up something !!!! - I resent having paid for it :D but I can resist using it.

It must be a similar problem on my machine - what ever Common0.cab is - but it is missing - I search all the 6 cds.

Arrgh - just trying to repair my SP0.0 insatall - asks for CD1 - its in the drive but it just does not find it ARGGGGGHHHH. Must be a problem with XP and the way CDs are located ? Is there a way to get the CD tyo be recognized?

No!

SolidWorks wanting the CD is not the actual problem, just a symptom.

I also tried to repair with no success, same problem you are having kept asking for a CD that was in the drive! - I ended up un-installing and reinstalling.

Hello Juan

We're making progress

Finnaly got SW2007 sp1.1 loaded on my Winxp machine

Maxwell was there waiting for me

There is garbage in the MXS and MXS paths - I deleted these and set a new path and set as default.

Juan - You have some nice defaults :D - so I reset these where there was nothing and saved .

One thing - Can we have the Shutter speed units shown - is 0.01 100th of a second - I assume it is - therefore 0.005 is 200th of sec. Can we have the old way back - like they have on cameras :D :D . I'm too old to change.

Anyway the long and the short - It Rendered. :o :o :D :D :D

Now Juan - Tried John's update for the SW2006 and win2000 instal. Did not work. Still get the error 1904 is and the failure to register Maxwell.

Shall I delete the whole Maxwell install except the licensce files and then re-install? I have checked the 8 dll yoiu list - they are there in
C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\plugins\SolidWorks folder
Other older versions ( from (june2006)are still in C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell folder. Should I delete these?

The plugin maxwell2007.dll and swmaterials.dll are in C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\plugins\SolidWorks. This is the default path the installer chose.

mxcl.exe,mxed.exe & mxst are in C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\

Is the plugin compatible with sw2006 and win2000?

OOPs - sorry Juan

Was not quite following your instructions to the letter to get my SW2006 Sp0 win2000 sp4 version working.

Have done so now and it has registered the new plugin. However

1 - can't seem to import materials. Selected some standard stuff and it crashes SW to the SW Customer feedback screen :D - But there is no box to tick that says W****kers. :D

2- Selecting "Maxwell Settings" does nothing - no dialogue box appears.

It would be usefull to just get mxs files out to use on my other machine.

Hi Jonathan,

It seems that the plugin has been loaded properly but one of its elements has not been properly registered. Since your installation process has been very "uncommon" it is difficult to know what could happen here.

Please follow this steps to load the control manually and tell me if it works:
1- go to Start->Run.. and type "cmd". A command line window will be launched
2- type "cd [your solidworks plugin folder ]"
In my case I type
cd C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\plugins\solidworks
3- Type regsvr32 swmaterials.dll /u
(it will unregister the dll if it was registered)
4- Type regsvr32 swmaterials.dll
(it will register the dll again, please tell me it it shows a window notifing th at the component was registered successfully or not)
5. Start Solidworks.

Many thanks!

SW has provided an impressive support these months and we know that animation and textures support will come, we just hope it is sooner rather than later!
Oh there is a new plugin! Might have to try it out. Animation and texture support would be quality!

One frustrating problem --

If a another component is added to an assembly all other components loose their material assignments.

Morning Juan - in at work on a Saturday? - I hope not. I hope you are reading this on Monday, but knowing you youare probably in work on Saturday :D

Did as you asked and re-registered the swmaterials.dll

Got the following response

'Dll Register Server in swmaterials.dll succeded'

I clicked OK

Then the following window called " Regsvr32" appeared saying

'OLE Uninitialize failed'

Any clues?

I presume you believe the plugin should work with sw2006 and win2000.

Is it a question of just scrapping this install and re-installing - or does this fuck up the licence files?

TTFN

John -

You mean if we latter further develope the model assembly by adding new parts , then any work done previously assigning materials is lost? Sounds a real problem. Juan - forget my problems - fix this one.

Yup

If I have an assembly open with Maxwell Materials assigned, and then open or create a part the Materials in the assembly disappear. If I then close SolidWorks without saving I can reopen the Assembly and the Materials reappear.

I just tried adding a component to the assembly, All the material assignments disappear, then closed the assembly. On reopening the same assembly, it crashes once when but when I try to reopen again it opens normally, with the materials attached. So not too much of a problem after all, it is disconcerting seeing the materials disappear but they do come back, after the second attempt at opening! The consistent crash, on reopening, is mildly annoying (but since SolidWorks is only on SP2.2 I guess this is normal)

John - you must know by now that these SW programmers just like to tease us :D

I'm getting my head round these default settings and the MXI MXS and Image paths. Each time I close Solidworks and then re-open , these paths are just full of junk text.

Can you get this shift clicking to work - to get the assignment tree?

Yes shift clicking works, it's annoying that it is conflict with SolidWorks's Select through transparency.

Not having the problem with the junk text. Under paths I have Output.mxs under MXS and Output.jpg under Image --- there is nothing under MXI. Not having a path (in the path) seems to output the files to the default directory of the model.

Hold the shift key down and then click a component, and up pop the Materials assignment window.
