I just bought Maxwell to render the following model.

Does anyone here have any specific settings for the transluscent rubber skin portion. I have been trying a lot of settings and everytime it looks like a big black mass. Any help would be very much appreciated, as I cant seem to get the translucent look that many of you are achieving.

I am not sure if this is a bug of the Solidworks plug-in, or how Maxwell renders transluscent materials. My apologies for somewhat double posting. I posted in the general section for general rendering tips, but I am posting here if anyone here knows whether my problem is a bug, and how to get the best out of Solidworks/Maxwell.

Yes- while I still have to full understand what all the parameters do, you need to change the value of the material near white to see any transluscency. I had some moderate success.

Hi Parel

What settings did you use, for your moderate success?

I did a test render last night, with no success. There is a new plugin for SolidWorks due this week, so I haven't been putting too much effort into testing untill I see what's new.

As John says, a new version will be avalaible this week. There are a lot of bugs fixed, specially in the material handling. Parel, if the model is not too confidential you can send it to me ( send me a private message )and I will take a look. There could be some issues. As tof83 said, the default rgb color of dielectrics is black (btw we will change it). Also when you have bodies inside other bodies there could be issues with the normal vectors specially if you are handling faces withoun thickness. Of course if you are using plastics with sss you need a very small thickness to let the light pass into, but also a zero-thicknes is not valid too.. We are improving a lot the materials engine, you will see awesome enhancements very soon.

Juan
