I might be wrong, but I think you have to have the selection filter set to "select faces" to be able to apply a material to a face alone. Even if the object properties window shows the face that you are selecting, if the selection filter is not set correctly, it won't apply the material to the face (at least I think that's the way it works). If you look in the Maxwell plugin window, there's a horizontal row of icons that are called "select feature", "select face" etc., so for any action you are doing to your part, you have to make sure that your selection filter is clicked to the correct setting otherwise it won't work. The face you are selecting is probably showing the body material as when you right click on it, you are still in "select body" mode, so it isn't applying the material.

I went through JD's little tutorials that he has posted on the top of this forum, which helped out a lot. I think the plugin is a little clunky by no fault of JD. Solidworks has a unique way of doing things, and I think he probably did the best he could with a bad situation.

I'll be finishing that how-to...eventually. I've recorded some video tutorials, and they should be available soon - they get kind of big bandwidth-wise, so I imagine there needs to be some compression work done before they are uploaded. Also, as far as the original question: the Body needs to have multi-Material support enabled - select the Body, and you'll find the toggle in the Object Properties toolbar.

This was a late addition to enhance the general performance in object-selection and meshing. Assigning per-Face/Feature can slow things down by a huge factor, when the number of Faces is significant - so definitely reserve this method only for those times when it's absolutely necessary.

Cheers,

JD
