Just thought I would mention a very temporary work around for those desperate to render using 1.5.

Some of us are getting a RUN Time crash when trying to load assemblies. Well they say the obviuos is not obvious untill it is written down :D

So save you assembly as a PART ( Save AS Part - then select all parts) and then I have found it loads into SW with Maxwell plugin working - assign materials and quickly save out an mxs and then use studio where each body part is now an object.

Not brilliant and I'm sure most have thought of this - but I didn't till this morning :D

I have now done it on some quite complex assemblies converted to parts and it works.

Hi JJs,

When you say 'load' assemblies do you mean just opening them in solidworks or do you mean exporting them via the plugin to studio?

I mean opening a SW assembly file in SW , once the Maxwell plugin has already been "added-in".

If the Maxwell plugin is not present then Assemblies open fine in SW.

I can open a Part file with the Maxwell plugin "added-in" in SW, but not Assemblies. Hence the obvious workaround :) - make the assemblies into a multibody part , which works fine - sort of.

Is there another way of getting sw assemblies into the Studio, other than via the plugin and mxs files.? I don't have any of the other translators for files types that Studio can accept.

Have you tried this:?

Disable the addin,
Load the assembly,
with it loaded, enable the addin.

It does load this way round but it does not bring in any of the materials that have been assigned in any previous session - A maxwell warning comes up about this - , and you have to keep remebering to unplug the addin before opening any other assembly - which is difficult as its almost second nature when working.

Juan - I suppose I should have mentioned this earlier as it might help track down the problem - Sorry - it did not cross my mind.

I confirm that in winxp64 with sw64 using the mr1.5 64bit plugin. With the plugin enabled opening an assembly crashes solidworks.

For new readers - there is now a new released plugin that addresses the original "assmebly " crash issue.
