I usually open up my model in Solidworks, set up a camera view, then select "Maxwell PM" in the Maxwell pull-down. Then I hit "render scene" and the plug in saves a .mxs file in the directory i choose. Since I downloaded maxwell 1.5, this method no longer works...there is simply nothing in the folder when I hit render scene, and there is no .mxs option in "save as"

I've downloaded the latest Solidworks plugin...what should i do?

Hi,

I guess this should be moved to the sw plugin forum.

What version of solidworks and what os?

The new plugin works perfectly fine in win32 for me. Did you uninstall the old plugin first (I believe it warns you first)?

Its Solidworks 2006 and 2007, win32...I tried it first in the old plugin, then installed the new one (which looks exactly like the first plugin, btw...maybe the install didn't work?). The results before and after were the same.

oh, i should clarify that when in installed 1.5 I didn't upgrade the plugin as well, just used the old plugin which was already installed (installing the old plugin after 1.5 would have produced the warning, yes?). When it didn't work, I tried upgrading the plugin.

Hello quasiquo,

-Can you see the Maxwell materials list in the taskpane? First we need to check the plugin is properly installed.
-Could you check the mxs path you set in the render settings dialog?
-Could you see if the path is valid and the folder where you are going to write the mxs file exists?

Juan,
I never apply materials in SW, so I'm not sure what to look for - the materials tab is there, and it works...but I don't see a list of materials anywhere (even though there is a tab which says "material list height").

mxs path is good, and the folder exists. it looks like the plugin is saving the files either as mxd or swmxm extensions rather than mxs. since those types of files are present in the output folder.

does this help?

thanks

Material Tab, swmxm.... are you using SolidWorks 2007 with the latest plugin? It seems like you are using the old v2006 one. Can you see the Maxwell Taskpane control? if you see the plugin integrated in a property manager instead, then you are using an older version of the plugin.

Juan, you're awesome. I simply had to turn off the 2006 add-in and turn on the 2007 one. Problem solved.

Thanks again
