As far as I am aware it's not possible in SolidWorks or the Maxwell Render Plugin it is possible in Studio.

I trialled GeometryWorks a couple of years back, and their plugin did have an option to reverse normals.

We will try to implement a reverse normals feature in the plugin in the future. By the way it is the first time that anybody asks about that, is it very common that the normals are exported from SW with wrong direction?

It is difficult to tell which way the normals will be when you draw a square and make it a surface (ex: for an emitter). You can click "normal to" when drawing, but click it again and flip the sketch over. Does this affect which way is up on the surface?

It would be very useful when making a simple surface an emitter.

2 ways to control this:

1 - make a solid cube, then delete the other five faces, what was the outer face of the remaining surface will be the normal side.

2 - if you sketch on a plane, the 'green' tinged side is normal and the red is the backside. If you need to flip it, you need to 'edit sketch plane' to another plane, then edit sketch plane again back to the original and the normal will be flipped.

Keep in mind I never bother with this! I currently use studio - at least until I install the new plugin!
