I have upgraded to Windows 10. I was using Maxwell 2.7 but it locked up the computer requiring a reboot. So I upgraded to the latest Maxwell 3. Maxwell 3 still locks the computer requiring a reboot.
I have uninstalled Maxwell 2 in an attempt to stop the lock-up, but to no avail.
I use the latest Maxwell plugin for Rhino 5 to create the file for Maxwell 3. I can turn off Rhino, and just run the mxs file in Maxwell render, and the computer still locks.
I left task manager on the last time it locked so I could see the state of the memory. I was only using 10GB of 16GB when the computer locked.
I am running Windows 10 Professional. 16GB RAM. 9TB of hard drive.

I would like to keep Maxwell Render running. It would be nice if, even if it crashes, it didn't lock the entire computer.

Next time this happens, I'll take a look at the system or application errors, and maybe get a clue as to what it malfunctioning.

It completely locks up or becomes very unresponsive? Have you tried with a very simple scene just to rule out RAM issues? Run a CPU and mem test for a few hours to check if mem, cpu, psu are ok under load.

That's a good idea. I'll run an exhaustive memory and cpu test.
The computer totally locks up and needs to be rebooted before it will respond to any mouse movement or keystrokes. Task manager stops working, too.

Run Prime95 test in blend mode, if it fails it means that that is hardware problem.

The problem was the memory. I've never had a memory problem before, but changing out the memory with 16GB of new RAM fixed the problem. It was only $107 for 16GB of DDR3 RAM, so that was a relatively inexpensive fix. Thank you all for the recommendation.
