Hi,

It seems I keep getting Rhino to crash by just trying to update the Material preview.

I create a new rhino file, create a new material and just double click the material preview. Rhino dives with no error message. Is there a log file somewhere?

regards,

- Björn

This seems to apply to Maxwell render aswell. I crashes just after launching a render. No error message.

If Rhino just disappears, there's very little chance of any log having been written. If the plugin has any warning of the error it will try to write the log to the desktop, otherwise you could check the folder where all of the plugin's files are kept. This is somewhere under your user folder, and you can find the actual location by looking near the top of any session log (i.e. look near the top of the Log Viewer). The Logs folder will be somewhere like [AppData]\MaxwellDotNET\Plugins\Rhino\Logs, and the logs inside it will be named using a date stamp.

As to the error, it works fine here, so some more info about your machine, OS, Rhino version, plugin version, etc. would be helpful. Also, more details like whether it happens every time, or every time with a certain material, the memory usage when it occurs, etc., might help me to know where to look.

Hello again JD, a lot of frustration this week :)

well, right now, I'm running Rhino on XP through Parallels on my MacBook pro. Latest version of everything. I did a Parallels update today..

At first I thought i had to do with coatings, but right now I can't find any common denominator..

Recently, maxwell render starts with this console output, and then just dives..

Might be texture-related as well. I tried disabling all the textures in this particular material and it started rendering. However, that certainly does not explain why it would crash a brand new .3dm file with a brand new clean material...

Ahh...I'm afraid that I really can't guarantee or diagnose much of anything if you're running on a virtual machine...it's tricky enough sometimes just doing so on a normal machine. Since you have this issue with MXCL, I tend to doubt it's a plugin issue at all - given the MXCL log, I guess I'd try checking for a corrupt bitmap. Other than that, make sure your Maxwell is 1.7.1 and up to date, and that you can duplicate the issue after rebooting, etc.
