First, I feel very fortunate in the continuing support given to Rhino and Maxwell Render through Next Limit...I just want to acknowledge that thorugh your efforts you have made my work "easier" and days more productive. Thank you.

My question for you is, can I suppress warnings within Rhino when I want to do a quick render from a Rhino viewport? On occassion I get error messages in mxcl (like below) which stops the render.
" ERROR:- object mesh 20 has triangels without material

Using latest plugin version of MR 1.6.8

Thanks.

Hi Jim,

No, it's not possible for the plugin to suppress any warnings in MXCL, since it is a separate application. But...as far as I know, it should be (though apparently it's not) impossible to get that error. I would be grateful if you could send me a scene that produces this error, so I can find out how it is that some geometry is sneaking through with nothing assigned.

Thanks,

JD

Just emailed the file. My recollection is that the file was originally created in 1.5.1. and everything rendered fine.

All right, I got it. All materials in an MXS (not in the plugin) must have unique names, as you see when you're working with MXST. The plugin checks to make sure this is true, but there is one case where it was not checking: when a material is auto-generated during export. It was just generating the material, adding it to the MXS, and then assigning it (by name) to the current object - never checking whether the SDK had changed the name when the material was added. There was already a similar problem to this that I fixed before, regarding case-sensitivity in the names of scene materials, but I had missed this case where a conflicting name would be derived from Rhino material-data during auto-generation.

So, you can consider this fixed for the next update, and in the meantime, if you run into this again, some simple workarounds would be: to rename some of the materials in the scene, to explicitly apply a material to everything, or to remove confilicting names from native Rhino materials.

Thanks for sending the file,

JD
