what does this error means?
If I open an old model and I choose all the surfaces and create a diffuse material, when I try to render I get this error=

Maxwell Error: Material already exists
Error creating diffuse material

however, If I do a simple scene from the scrath and do the same (select all my surfaces and create one diffuse material), I don't get any errors?

BTW the old model was save as a Rhino V2 and then as a V3

I had the same problem with a scene that had no blocks. Could groups be a problem too? I tried ungrouping everything but I could have missed a nested group.

Meanwhile Rhino 3 is p*ssing me off so bad because it's so slow hiding and showing things that I'm back using Rhino 2 again. So it will be some time before I can check the material issue again.

if this error occurred, try to unload rhinoll plugin and load it back (eg. by selecting Rhinoll as default renderer and open render properties) without closing the scene. It helps, al least for me.

I'm not using any block instances ... Infact I use the tool (select block instances) to double check.

I also tried selection a different type of render and then rhinoll again, and no luck... does anyone wants to see my file?

I don't know, I get this error too, even if everything looks perfect.

What happens sometimes is that it gives you the error the first time you press render... then press render the second (or third time) time and it goes...

... maybe it is one of those alpha-version glitches.

Note: if you get this glitch, it is likely a tell-tale sign that after saving and closing the file you will loose all your materials....
