I hope I'll have some testing version on Friday (without textures for now).

what is planning with this 'material editor' (is non-modal window)

- drag&drop support (to one object/selection)
- show (select) matching materials
- show objects without material assigned

if you have any comments etc... let me know :)

and some comment to the material lib...
- I've disabled/hide material preview (will think more about how to do this more efficiently)
- "global library" means global library (available to each scene)
- "local" - user materials in one scene (one file)
- materials are stored in xml file

Znouza,

from Rhinoman I like, that I can export (save) all or only selected materials and import materials.

Do you have a name for your plugin? I would say "Rhinowell" or "Rhinomax". But, maybe you have a good name or the other user know a good one. :)

Micha,

He said that the materials are stored in XML file.

Besides this, why would you need to export materials ?
With Znouza's plugin if you put a material in the Global folder, then it is available to all files (Rhinoman does not have this).

Wow! Nice editor!

While Flamingo kinda sucks, I still liked its editor, and this kinda looks like it!

Way to go.

Micha,
as Thomas said. There;s no need to have this option. If you download or create another materials, you simply add these to the material library xml file.

so you can share this xml file simply to others.

Sorry, I never have used direct xml file, but I see now, it is a maxwell material file.

How could I save only one material, which I want to share?

I'm in the beginning.. or we're .. so .. open the XML file, find material, then copy&paste has to be enough yet. ;)

maybe then.. someone set up website to exchanging materials... or.. I'll tell you my idea about material previews...

for each material ...is the a few options but too many variations... so.. I was thinking about sharing rendered material previews... like:

1. i'll 'configure' some material in material editor
2. system (plugin) will try to find out material preview render locally ...
3. if not found, then ask server if there's any material preview (with this parameters set) available
4. if so, download and store locally (with user interaction like 'do you want to download render preview ...")

on the other side... if you did material preview.. and allow to share to others.. the your preview will be uploaded to the server...

comments? is this real? each material preview should be very small, eg. max 20kiB of size.. (160x160px, jpeg)

Znouza,

thanks for the answer. I think, I would use this single export very seldom, so "copy&past" is good enough.

Great to see, that the maxwell plugin is growing.

I suggest to start putting effort on the map functions too since these have to be stored in a custom user data on the objects.
I was thinking in the begininng to use Ogl mapping functions to speed up code for map generation routines, so no coding is required in calculating UV coords. The basic Planar, spherical cilinder and box are available
Anyway keep on the good work

Thank for your hint, Gerry. I'll take a look onto that. So, I would like to have bugfree plugin with matlib.. then add texture support - to elimitate finding bugs "somewhere" in the old and new code. :)

That's very good of you. I'm sure everyone appreciates the work you are doing. Do you have any plans of releasing the source code at a later stage?
I didn't think about that. But everything is possible :)

Znouza,

Now is your chance if you are interested. Victor From Next Limit sent out an e-mail this weekend. They are looking to hire people who want to collaborate doing plugin development. Hope you can do it. The work you have done so far looks great. Now maybe you can get paid for it.

Maybe he got the NextLimit Plugin Developer job and now is on holiday until the end of august - like *everybody* in Madrid.
(... and like everybody here in the forum as it appears. It's been unusually quite for the last few weeks.)
I've got nothing, but being a little vacating - and have some duties to my family, but still coding. hope at the end of next week (6th-7th Aug) will post news)

btw - I've wrote to victor (about this plug etc) .. 14+ days ago.. and I still didn't receive _any_ answer.
