I think your problems comes from the units in the Rhino document: in Maxwell "size does matter", so if your model is 1 cm long the DOF effect is extreme, just as would happen in real; take a look in the document options under units section and eventually rescale the whole model (also check the viewport properties to get the actual focal length...)
