When using the MXM browser to locate files and import, if you select a material in the tree, then right click the material in the tree, the material is duplicated on import -- two instances of the same. Don't know if that happens for others?

Hi Jim,

Yes, that is what it means when it says 'import' - the file (.mxm) data is read and used to populate a new plugin 'Material', which is then added to the scene. This would happen twice, if you imported the same file twice - so when you say 'two instances of the same', it is not so - there are 'two copies of the same'. Each copy is its own independent thing, and it exists in the scene completely apart from the actual .mxm file it was created from. So actual .mxm files are used by the plugin more as templates for creating plugin Materials (that's why I always capitalize 'Materials') - the only time you ever touch actual .mxms is when you use one to create a new Material.

Let me know if that clears up your question.

Okay...

I'm not sure I've explained correctly what happens...

When I import from the tree only in the mxm browser (right click on the folder in the tree), two identical copies of the same material(s) appear in my "scene materials", at least from what I see on my system they are identical in name -- there is no distinction or designation 1, 2, etc.

If you highlight the first copy in the scene materials, it only becomes highlighted. When you highlight the second copy, both copies are highlighted.

I don't really understand why two identically named copies would be created? If they were distinguished in some way, okay, but why with one click on a folder would I want two identically named copies?

No, I didn't understand that was the case. I will have to reinstall your version to see exactly what's happening, but your description of clicking one icon and having both get highlighted tells me that you are just looking at two icons which both point to the same Material - and this would be a display bug. Are you able to avoid it completely by not using the folder-tree > right-click > import function? That is, does it appear that is the only way to create this situation? Also, if you save, close, and re-open - is the extra 'copy' gone from the list? I'm guessing it will be.

Thanks,

Only on the folder tree...other mxm imports work without problem. You are correct...upon closing and reopening, the issue seems to disappear -- only one material shows up.
