A Rhino version for Mac OSX is being developed. Will there also be a Maxwell plugin for that?

I think JD won´t start till rhino OSX is a complete Release, what I guess will take at least until mid - end of this year!

or did I miss something JD ;)

No, you didn't miss anything...the current plugin is written on the .Net Framework, which means that I can't reuse a single line of code in any OSX plugin. Actually, this plugin was written and released before McNeel gave a hint about any OSX version. So I don't really know how a plugin will shape up, it's really still too early to say what that would look like. I've said in other threads about this, that it will probably start with a pretty simple MXS exporter, and go from there.

Personally, not as a plugin writer, but as someone who's owned Rhino for a very long time - and paid for every upgrade to a software that has always said 'NURBS Modeling for Windows' everywhere - I feel it's really pretty counter-productive to try to support a whole new OS, when that effort could be used to improve the existing application. It's McNeel's business what they do, they don't 'owe' anybody anything, but personally I really don't appreciate it, especially seeing that Macs run on Intel chips these days. The whole idea doesn't make any sense to me at all, and I can't say for sure if I'll even stick with Rhino, if this is how the money I pay for it will be used. That's no big deal though, it's not like they didn't know going in that there would be people who would feel this way about it.

But to reiterate, that's nobody's official position - just my personal, politically-incorrect, feeling - I would think this way whether or not I was writing this Maxwell plugin.

Well, as a longtime macian I like the idea, of course. And a simple MXS exporter would make enough sense for me. Actually, I was only looking for a chance to change from Sketchup to some other modeler, because the SU exporter does not work sufficiently for the time being. Seems I can forget about Rhino ...

well you got a point JD,

but since OSX is getting bigger and bigger, and for anybody how is not so much into all windows settings and registry and so on, OSX is a very good solution.

So why not developing a product for an ever growing OS.

I worked on both OS mac and windows and each of it has its advantage!

SO we will see what is happening at the and of the day (end of the day my favourite phrase this week, I heard it at least 50 times in my last meeting at work; LOL)

so, that is just my personal oppinion ???

Oh, that's just my thoughts about it...if you've been around this forum for very long, you'll know that I don't put alot of sugar on my opinions - I don't like doing things that way. :) I'm sure they have their reasons, since they have marketing to think about, and like I say, it's their software and their decision.

But for me, I like Windows, not because it's Windows, but just because I think it's a waste of time and money to have two different kinds of things laying around and to learn two different ways of doing things - I want to be productive. I always drive Ford cars, because by now I have alot of Ford spare parts laying around, and I know how everything works on them...so it doesn't make any sense for me to think about another brand. Same with computers...lots of PC parts, software, and experience - why would I want to switch? And beyond this, I always liked the fact that Rhino wasn't ashamed of saying, 'we do Windows, and that's all'...it always made alot of sense to me and I admired that. But, that's just me...

Don't be squeamish, JD. I decided for Mac years ago because I’am a musician forced to use studio equipment compatible to other producing places. That’s why your arguments concerning windows are perfectly applicable to my OSX necessities. I was only looking for a nice OSX modeling software (just for fun) because my house is full of Apple computers. Ok?
