After installing the recent Modo plug-in update the preview window in Maxwell Render no longer displays anything (the window is filled with a purple color). Using Multi light is very difficult.
Great so far other than that. Anybody else having this issue?

You mean the normal render works fine, but only the preview window has this strange habit?

Have you tried it with different scenes?

Does it happen only with multilight turned on?

My last question:) which version of Maxwell Render do you use? (2.0.3?)

Hi Márton,
Yes, the normal render works fine - just the small preview window acts strangely.
The scene where preview is not working has quite a few lights (15). When multi-light is off preview works.
I have been able to render some other scenes using multi-light ( with less lights) were in some cases preview works fine and in others it does not.
It seems random at the moment.

Maxwell Render 2.0.2

Márton,
It looks like it is related to the Directional light in MODO. If the Directional light does not have Physical Sun checked on, and Maxwell is set up to use Physical Sky, it shows up in Multi-Light with a wacky number under it's slider - for example: 2.39467e+15. If the Directional Light is turned off using M (mute) the preview window comes on. Does this make sense? Is it an error to have Physical Sun unchecked when using Physical Sky?
Thanks,
h

Hi Hugh,

Yes, it makes sense. If directional light Physical Sun is checked, the exporter exports the light as Maxwell Physical Sky sun. But if it is unchecked, the exporter creates a sun like object, with a sun like emission power. It works well until you have another emitter with normal emission power. (The huge difference between the emitter with the normal emission power and the extreme power of the sun emitter makes the calculation for Maxwell difficult.) So the scenario is valid, but not an easy situation for the unbiased algorithm. I recommend you to use the normal physical sun when it is possible. The in-built sun also has a very big emission value, but Maxwell render can deal with it - thanks for the special optimizations.
