Hi there,

there is a post on the Maxwell Render V2 forum regarding a potential rendering problem with sun light and emitters for a certain project. It is not my project but the we need to find out what the issues are regarding the potential problem. It may be plug-in related?? The post is titled "where is the sun" Would someone from Pylon be willing to test the files out. They are on the post for downloading. I get the same results as the author of the project when rendering.

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi,

I work on a very big landscape model with many symbols/instances. With the new ver 2.0.3 I can't make the it work with the symbols export. I get the error message mentioning emitters among other things if I try to render the scene.

The scene with the export problem was a scene I have worked with in FormZ/Maxwell for a long time (months) - without any problems. It does not contain any emitting objects (well not what I know of).

I was supposed to make a few corrections and ... render - when things exploded (time wise). It was difficult to find the error because i moved to a new 7i core machine, FormZ 6.7, Windows 7, the newest Maxwell patch and MaxwellZ plugin at the same time.

I can't garantee that I haven't made an emitting object without knowing, but it would be the first time, and I have erased everything that just resembles of any kind of light. The changes I made was very small (putting in some new tree symbols). When the beta of the same plugin came out I noticed that it didn't export the maps of my symbols. Things worked when I uninstalled the beta with the older version. So I'm a little skeptical from the beginning - admitted.

I can only say that I was really fed up when I at last found the way through. I did have a price though. A 25 mb FormZ file ended up being more than 800 mb in Maxwell. It took me more than 20 min to export the file - seems like the plugin can't use all the CPU power.

I have had really high expectations for all the ver 2.0 and later patches. I must say that I don't feel my expectations have been fulfilled. There have simply been to many errors especially in the net render section.

Hi Ohm,

That's a lot of system changes to make in the middle of a project. In general, I would advise that major software upgrades (any type of software, not just Maxwell) only be scheduled between projects, to avoid complications.

What beta were you using? I don't have an 'ohm' on the beta testers list.

If you have a problem to report, please post a small test formZ file demonstrating the issue in a zipped folder (and include all referenced symbol libraries, MXMs, bitmap textures etc.), and we will look at it. Please be specific about the version numbers of all the software you are using (maxwell, plugin, etc.), as this information is important.

I am having uses with my scenes taking a very long time to export to maxwell. Yes, they are very large scenes with many instances. Some are taking 45min to an hour. It just my be the scene. A lot of objects and polys.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your reply.

I agree with you that the amount of systems changes wasn't optimal. But I had to do it at some point, and I actually thought I had finished the project when some changes came around. On the other hand, I always work on several projects, so there is newer a full clear sky.

The project is a classified state run project. So I can't send the file ti you at this point. I would have to clean it at first. I will do it if I have the time.

I'll come back with info about the beta version I used that didn't work with maps in symbols.

My project leader is an official beta tester and he gave med the beta. We work on the same files. I will try to contact you through the forum messages system. If you reply I will give the info you would need.

To be fair, I will add, that many of the plugin updates/changes Pylon have made, has improved the user face.

Hi Ohm,

Using beta software for critical production work is not recommended... it's a beta, after all!

Please use the officially released version of the plugin available through the Maxwell customer portal; there were some changes made to symbol handling that may have solved your problem.
