This is for Mac users:
Hi guys.
In the past months I've been teaching alot of Mac users (architects, set designers, retail designers etc.) Maxwell Render for SketchUp in 1-day courses.
In every class I usualy spend the first hour with technical problems in the installation procedure - especially the Silverlight 5 issue is like hell on earth.
When downgrading to Silverlight 4 I've been struggling very hard with uninstalling (COMPLETELY UNINSTALLING) Silverlight 5.
About half of the Macs keep stating, that a newer version of Silverlight is installed although I've been following the usual uninstall-guides.
So far I've had to give up on this issue several times, and thereby leaving a participant without a functional Maxwell Render during the course - very unsatisfactory!
I actualy decided to stop teaching Maxwell Render for Mac users.
But today I finaly found a solution to the problem, wuhuu!!!
1. Quit ALL programs on the Mac (cmd+Q).
2. Uninstall Silverlight COMPLETELY:
In OSX Finder:
3. Navigate to the root library: Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins.
- If Silverlight.plugin is present, trash it.
4. Navigate to the root library: Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts/Silverlight*.pkg
- If Silverlight*.pkg is present, trash it.
5. Navigate to the user library: ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Silverlight ("~" being the folder with your name)
- If Silverlight folder is present, trash it.
6. HERE COMES THE NEW PART:
- Navigate to the hidden folder /private/var/db/receipts/ (When using Finder you can do this through the dropdown Go > Go To. Write /private in the command line and hit Enter)
- Trash these two files:
/private/var/db/receipts/com.microsoft.installSilverlightPlugin.bom
/private/var/db/receipts/com.microsoft.installSilverlightPlugin.plist
7. Empty the Trash.
8. Reboot the machine.
9. Open Safari.
10. Download and install Microsoft Silverlight 4.0, from here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= ... .0.60310.0
11. Open SketchUp and hit the FIRE-button on the Maxwell Toolbar and enjoy the amazing, grey render result
