So, trying out the amazing new preview, and I decide to do some real time mods to a material in the material editor in Studio. Like the slight modifications I see so I export out the mxm and overwrite the previous file in my materials folder. At some later point I open a test scene in Sketchup, and through the Maxwell plugin, browse to the revised mxm material and try to load it. Nothing comes up in the preview scene...I pick the edit icon, and the material shows up there fine, so its linked. I make a minor mod in the material and try saving it here to see if I can somehow regenerate a preview, exit the editor, but still nothing. Thought I should run a quick render as the material did show up in the Maxwell plugin built-in editor, and maybe its just a glitch with the .mxm preview display...material does not show up in the render. Hmmm. All other materials load in the preview window in the maxwell plugin .mxm preview just fine. Decide to repeat the process with another material...back into Studio, edit a material there, export out, back to SketchUp, try and load the revised material in the .mxm preview....nothing.

So is it something with the new Fire preview, or is Studio tagging the material somehow when it exports it out and blocks SketchUp from loading it?

I don't know, but I'm sticking with material edits in MXED for now.

AHA! The fundamental mistake. Thanks Jason. When I saw the announcement yesterday, I noticed that SketchUp plugin was not mentioned in the plugin updates...never even thought to look. I remembered reading something about how SketchUp's SDK might not allow for integration of the Fire preview so I thought SketchUp plug-in might still be in the works. Of course I completely blanked on the fact that there are other pieces to the 2.5 update and that a revised plug-in would be needed for those features.

Now I am obligated to sign on to VTC. ;-) Great tutorials by the way!

Thank-you... I'm working on a "Sketchup to Maxwell Workflow" one right now to dig into all the goodies that JD has given us and it builds on the main Maxwell video tutorials so having seen the Maxwell series will really help establish the groundwork.

Best,
Jason.
