The scene seems to export to studio and open ok but when I save or try to render I get an error. Here's the console log...

Scene loaded succesfully!
Number of Objects: 100
Number of Triangles: 301921
Number of Materials: 39
Number of Cameras: 23
Error saving scene: object.setTriangleMaterial : Invalid triangle index
Error saving scene: object.setTriangleMaterial : Invalid triangle index
Error saving scene: writeMXS : Errors detected in scene creation phase. MXS will not be created.

I don't know whether this would be a problem with how the plugin is writing your MXS or if it would be a problem with Studio. If you are willing, I will send you an ftp address where you could upload the SU file, so I can check it out here.

Sure, PM'ed you some info.

BTW, while I can't render/save from studio if I render directly from SU it does, indeed, work via that route.

hey JD
I'm having exactly the same issue....
Many objects coming into studio without any material assignment....I remove these objects but still getting
this message when I try to render :
Error saving scene: object.setTriangleMaterial : Invalid triangle index
Error saving scene: object.setTriangleMaterial : Invalid triangle index
Error saving scene: writeMXS : Errors detected in scene creation phase. MXS will not be created.

Any ideas on how to fix this ?

Are you using the version 2.1.12 plugin? Also, which OS, OS version, and Maxwell version are you using?

Yeah, I'm continuing to have this issue as well. Sometimes separating by materials will help but since there's not a global option, that can be a pain. So, with my last project I ended up exploding every component in the model to get it to work. I think that may have been using the same model we previously had issues with, but I've also got a new one which has the same issue, but fortunately I haven't had to do any studio work to it so I can just render straight from SU. I've got some extra time today, I'll widdle out all the miscellaneous and send you a new file, maybe it'll help you debug.

Sounds good. Honestly I don't know where I'm at with this right now -- I can't seem to generate a problem MXS from the SKP you sent me, but the problem still exists with the MXS that you generated from it. But that was generated with a previous build of the plugin.

So yeah, if you have a model right now, which produces the issue without my playing musical chairs with different versions, that would be great.

Ok, here's the .skp file...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/384281/debug.skp

And the exported .mxs

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/384281/debug.mxs

It turned out that for the whole hospital and site model the issue came down to one small window (which had 3 associated instances). I was able to delete the associated instances and the problem remained. By 'remained' I mean that it would render from SU just fine, but if I export to Studio and try to render, I get an error, "Cannot export scene. Check Studio Console for details". I then was able to delete the glass, and it remained. I then replaced the material with a generic color and the problem remained.

So now it's an extremely bare and simple file. Here are the things I tried which will 'fix' the issue.

1. any geometry change to the window frame fixes it. Even something as simple as drawing a line across one of the faces inside the component.

2. Right-Clicking the component and changing the Maxwell -> Separate toggle from None to EITHER Face or Material.

3. Removing all materials from the component either by deleting the material from the SU Materials window so that it turns to the Default material, or by simply applying the default material to the component.

By the way, I should have mentioned that I'm using the 2112 plugin on Windows 7 with Maxwell 2.1.0.0 and SketchUp 7.1.6860

Well, it does look to be pretty touchy, because exporting from your SKP here, everything works as expected. Opening your MXS though, the problem is present. And that makes absolutely no sense.

Ran a few more tests. I ran the same test on another computer with an identical setup in terms of software and versions but on a Win XP 32bit machine with the same results. I then uninstalled the Maxwell plugin/exporter, redownloaded it from the Gateway, and installed it again on that computer, and the issue is still there. I can't imagine why it's not showing up on your computer.

Perhaps someone else could download the SKP file and test it? Basically you should just have to open it up, click the export scene to studio button, and try to render it from studio.

Any other ideas on where to go from here JD?

I downloaded your file and got the same error:

Scene loaded succesfully!
Number of Objects: 3
Number of Triangles: 29
Number of Materials: 1
Number of Cameras: 1
Render channel format does not support embeding alpha channel. It will be stored in a separate file.
Error saving scene: object.setTriangleMaterial : Invalid triangle index
Error saving scene: writeMXS : Errors detected in scene creation phase. MXS will not be created.

If the red SketchUp material is removed, Studio will render...

(Tested on SketchUp 8, newest plugin, Mac OSX)

Thanks Stefan, I have now been able to reproduce it. It looks as though this may be due to something wrong with the SDK, which has since been fixed.
