I have been using v3 successfully since it came out. Yesterday however about halfway through asssigning materials MXED would start to load and short of givng me the dialog interface ..... nothing. If I closed the SU file and try to reopen it taskmanager would tell me MXED still had the file open. I could only release the file by doing a complete reboot. Studio and Render would still function but I perfer for now to assign my materials in SU. Figuring MXED got corrupted I did a complete reinstall of V3 with no better results. Not sure where to go with this one since it really cripples me in assigning materials easily.

Hmm, are you able to start MXED directly from the Start menu or the Desktop (provided you asked it to install shortcuts), or failing that, by starting mxed.exe directly, from C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell 3?

No unfortunatly, thats what prompted me to try a reinstall. I also tried another model but got the same results. I noticed in a simalar posting that suggests it may have to do with my permisions set on the materials folders but I think thats unlikely since my login has administrative rights. Of note: I still have Maxwell 2 installed.. That shouldnt pose any issues for 3 should it

It should work fine to have both versions installed, though it can confuse Explorer, since only one application can be the default application for a file type. The thing that makes sure each version (and your installed plugins) knows where it is located is the MAXWELL3_ROOT environment variable (MAXWELL2_ROOT for Maxwell 2), which you can read about on this page, if there is any question.

I do recall there being an issue with the material browser in the initial release, but I believe that has been fixed, so you may want to check the version of Maxwell you have installed (use Help > About in Maxwell Render or Maxwell Studio), and make sure it's the build that's currently available, which is 3.0.0.1 (marked "Beta" but is mostly a minor bug-fix of the initial release). I mention that because it seems suspect here, with a previously-functioning MXED mysteriously ceasing to work correctly.

Very good. I will download the Beta version and install. ?? Do I need to uninstall the 3.0.0.0 version before installing the latest. I think I will anyways since it seems to do a good job but curious for future upgrades.

There should be no need to uninstall first, though personally, I often do.
