Hi JD,

I recently installed Sketchup 8 and the new Maxwell plugin and I am having a problem I did not see with SU 7.

When I close SU after having exported to Maxwell (via the plugin) it terminates with a Bugsplat. If I don't close after exporting, but continue to make additional edits to my model, SU will unexpectedly terminate and I lose any edits I have made. The Bugsplat dialog always occurs a second or so after SU has closed (no longer on the screen).

After much experimentation I found that the crash is somehow related to having Scenes in the file. If I remove the Scenes the problem disappears. I have several SU files that do this, although not all my SU files having Scenes in them will crash after exporting to Maxwell. For the ones that do, removing the Scenes before exporting always fixes the problem. While this is a workaround, I have to be careful to remove the current Scene last and not save when I exit or I will lose all of my Scene settings.

The files that crash have nothing else in common. The file sizes range from 2MB to over 60MB; some have components, others don't; some are textured, others are not, some have glass, others none; etc., etc.

I am using the Maxwell_for_SketchUp8-2.5.15-win32 plugin for Sketchup 8.0.4811. The computer is an i7-860 with 4GB RAM, WinXP-Pro.

Your help is appreciated as always.

Regards,
Don

Thanks Don, I am able to reproduce this here, though I can't discern any specific cause (i.e. bad plugin logic) for it yet. Here, it appears to be caused by the plugin trying to keep the export out of your undo stack; that is, I seem able to prevent it happening by applying the same change described here: http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 93#p343693. However, since you've already applied that change, I'm skeptical as to whether this is really the source of the issue. Could you check and see if your export.rb file is still modified as described in that post? Theoretically, the modification could've been reverted by repairing the plugin installation, or possibly by doing a System Restore.

Hi JD,

I had forgotten that I made those changes to export.rb and they were lost when I installed SU 8 and the latest plugin.
I just made the changes again and the problem is gone. Thanks again!

Just out of curiosity, why hasn't the change been permanently implemented in the new plugin?

Thanks for confirming, the behavior seemed to be related to that change here too, but since it's not a strictly logical error, I can't prove that conclusively. So please try to keep an eye on it and let me know if it crops up again. As to why it's not changed, that's because 2.5.15 is still the current release -- I'll be removing that code in the next update, but I'm not finished working on it yet.
