Hi Jeremy

I got an issue with a new computer. It has windows 8 installed on it and I cannot install the rhino plugin. It asks me to install the .net framework. But I have it already installed on my machine (as it comes with windows 8).
How can I install the plugin then?

thx,
Christoph

You need to go to Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off, and enable .NET 3.5 (that includes 2.0, which is what the installer is looking for).

As far as figuring it out yourself, the main way would be the same way that I used: by typing windows 8 .net framework 2.0 into google, which returns lots of results. This is something of which I've only recently begun hearing (you are the 4th occurrence, I believe), so I guess I'll have to warn about it in the readme and the installation docs.

I have no way of knowing whether it should always be the case, but don't assume so -- some people upgrade existing win7 installs, or have upgraded from 8 to 8.1, or have installed 8.1 fresh, and so on.

Probably a question of the OEM configuration. Since there are a lot of desktop programs around that still require .NET 2.0 I can't really see a reason to have it deactivated by default. Acer obviously choose to have it activated for my machine.
