due to my mystic material problems (some objects loosing them) i have the log viewer open most time now to see a bit more.

i see a lot of action in there, even with very simple rhino commands like hide/show, and also when changing the uv channel in a material.

i see many lines like this, and it often takes a while to complete:
is this a standard behavior?

That is completely normal... Rhino is not like Maxwell, in that there might be thousands of materials in the document. When you change something in a Maxwell material, the plugin has to modify any number of those Rhino materials, in order for you to see the effect of the change in your viewport. If it feels too slow, the solution is to disable real-time viewport materials (top left button in the db manager) and just use the Refresh Viewport Materials command when desired.

thanks for the info.

i am just theorizing because my problem is very much related to what is seen in the viewport.. meaning that an object which looses the material (from the maxwell tab in object properties) will be stuck with a rhino copy containing only what was shown last in the viewport. so either a texture from a slot, if it was selected, or only the color chip.

btw. i am running r5 x64 1/29/2013, latest maxwell build and plugin on a win7 machine

Yes, definitely, by whatever unknown process the association is lost, it would leave the object with whatever appearance the plugin had last created for it. So that is entirely expected. The question is how the association is lost -- I don't currently know of any way for that to happen.
