I feel rather moronic (again) for asking this (I read the plugin manual first btw), but if for instance I want the image to be the view in the viewport but want it at a higher resolution than the monitor resolution (currently 1222x790), how do I do that and maintain the extents of the viewport window?

Hello Joe,
type Maxwell_ToggleCameraHeadsUpDisplay and also type Maxwell_ToggleCameraBackPanel.
(also available through toolbars). The headup-display visualizes the Camera aspect ratio which
you control with the CameraBack panel. First set the image portion of your liking by simply dragging
the mouse like in all other plugin editors. When done lock the aspect ratio (there's a symbol)
In the last collumn you can then set the output size to whatever value.

This is the most powerful option.
However you can also set the output size to Manual on the Camera-page of the Scene Manager and
then enter a numeric value which exceeds screen size.

thank you much Holger, getting it figured out.

a couple of quick follow-up questions...

the area "out of camera view" is just a shade lighter than the that portion that is output and VERY hard to see...can this be changed?

also, as I'm playing with the settings, sometimes this "out of camera view range" becomes pinkish like in photoshop....don't know what is going on there, but is definitely much easier to see.

Yes, that's possible. Have a look in SceneEditor Plugin Options (the rightmost tab) Here you'll find the setting for the Hatch-colour (in UI-Preferences).

This is actually a very nifty warning. It signifies that your current viewport layout can't solve the entered aspect ratio. It will render correct but it is not what you see on screen.
As soon as you drag the viewport-border to a layout which can show the aspect-ratio set for output the overlay returns to its normal colour.

When the color of the HUD goes red, that means that part of the Maxwell camera's sensor is not visible in the Rhino viewport. You can change the normal color in Plugin Options > User Interface > UI Preferences > HeadsUpHatchColor.
