This morning I updated my Rhino WIP 5 ( x64 ) to the latest build ( 25 July 2012 ). Hour later installed Maxwell 2.7.1. And right after that tried installing Maxwell for Rhino and got this error message. Not sure what’s happening. Rhino 64 has been sitting on my C drive for years now....

All I can tell you is that the installer is not finding this key in the registry:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0x64\Install\InstallPath
So please check that this exists (you can use regedit), and if not, consider repairing your Rhino 5 installation.

Thanks JD
It looks like 'Install' folder is missing. Could it be that the latest WIP actually wiped it out...? In such case how I can get it back. Wait until MacNeel posts another WIP update...? oh so many question.....:)

I can't say -- either something went wrong with the Rhino installer, or they have changed how the registry is set up. If it's the former, that would be something you want to fix; if it's the latter, then the plugin installer will have to be modified. I'm manually downloading the July 25 build now in order to check it myself.

Installing the July 25 build did not erase my Install registry key, and it updated the values that key contains. So it appears most likely that your Rhino installation malfunctioned. If it were my machine, I'd uninstall/reinstall Rhino 5 x64; you may want to consult the Rhino newsgroup, though, in case the McNeel developers would like to get some information about what happened, while you still have the evidence.
