I saw this problem on a limited scale previous to this, but now many of my files have materials, previously valid, which render as a silver like materials now.
Even the previews show as silver like material when I first open the file.
HELLLPPP!!!

Thanks,
Rick

A few questions:
  • 1. Do these materials you mention have invalid texture paths?
    2. If you create a material from scratch, does it work correctly?
    3. Could you please email me a file that exhibits this behavior?

1. texture paths verified ok
2. materials created from scratch not work either
3. only happens in existing files, all is well with a brand new file

what email address do I use to send example file?

Thank you.

On the email, there should be an "email" button you can use just below here. And I cannot be sure exactly what you mean by saying previews -- do you mean the rendered material preview, in the plugin's material editor?

Yes, I mean material previews in the plugin's material editor.
I do no see any email button below, just PM button and I do not see a way to attach a file.
Sincerely,
Rick

Thanks, I got the scene, and no kidding, every material is rendering like some kind of silver metal. I'll post back when I figure out why.

Ah, here is the problem: one of your materials is named "preview". That name is used in preview MXS scenes, where the geometry to be rendered is pre-assigned a material with this name. This is what allows you to create your own MXS preview scenes and have them work automatically with the system; by convention, Studio, MXED, or a plugin simply overwrite the state of the "preview" material contained in the MXS, thus rendering the geometry with the desired appearance. What is happening here, is that after the "preview" material in the MXS data is written, it is then overwritten by the "preview" material in your Rhino scene, which is a metallic silver material.

The temporary workaround is simply to rename your "preview" material.
