It would be sweet if one could choose the order by which the materials are stacked up in the material tab of the scene manager.
Or is it possible already, but I don't know the magic formula ?

The only organization available is to sort alphabetically -- see the right click menu in the material list.

Is it conceivable to allow the user moving them up or down à la Rhino layers ?
This would allow to stack together materials that have characteristics in common...
Or maybe the ability to create folders and have an interface à la Database manager ?

Those ideas are surely conceivable, but there is really no built-in support for them in the UI libraries used by the plugin (i.e. Microsoft .NET). I mean, you can have a tree, as with the DB manager, but it doesn't support multi-select, or thumbnails, like you have in the current list-style material window. So, the request is noted, but I won't likely be making many moves in this area for the time being -- I have to wait and see what Andy's new material stuff ends up looking like as V5 continues to develop, before I can make any really intelligent choices about which direction we ought to move in.

Ok, I understand.
I guess I can work that out by a proper naming of my materials so that the alphabetical sorting becomes my friend.
