Hi!

Can I use HDRi and backplates like these examples: http://www.hdri-locations.com/examples.php -in a Rhino/Maxwell combo?

They also used these HDRi's for the new Danish supercar Zenvo: (HDRi Location 0011)
http://www.zenvoautomotive.com/cars/gallery/g3.aspx

I don't know what rendering engine they used, but it looks quite realistic.

Is this possible to use these HDRi + backplates in Rhino/Maxwell? I only played around with it for half an hour, but it seems more than difficult to match the backplates to the HDRi? Honestly I doesn't really get the principle, the backplate is of course a flat surface, so if I put it under a car to catch the shadow, then nothing matches up?

I guess it is possible to use the HDRi separately, with a shadow catching surface under the car, and then compose it in CS4 afterwards, but are there a more direct way to use HDRi with backplates in Rhino/Maxwell, or even in Maxwell Studio?

All help is highly appreciated!

Best regards
Kim

I'm pretty sure you're looking at rendering separate passes and compositing them together, as you said. There is a quick example of this type of usage in the Maxwell 2.0 PDF manual on pages 73 & 74; maybe that will be helpful. Just to make sure you know, it's possible to show the HDRIs in the Rhino viewport using the plugin's Environments toolbar.
