If I make a glass material using the Wizard and apply this to a plane, the glass renders fine but in the VP it's not translucent. Is there a setting in the material editor I need to adjust or somewhere in C4D Viewport or project settings perhaps?

There's no setting in the plugin; for a transparent material, the plugin gives Cinema a bitmap with alpha to use in OpenGL, but how (or if) it gets used varies based on the version of Cinema. Here (Quadro 2000), it gets used in R11, but doesn't generally look very good; it does not appear to be used at all in R12+, but that could come down to some combination of Cinema settings and/or my video card.

Sketchup wins again, in that case. In Sketchup you just dial in some transparency and whilst modelling, you can see through glass. In C4D, using an MXM you can't. That's a real pain.
