Hi,

I'm pretty new to MR's workflow (had it for a long time on my HDD, but now I want to dig a little deeper) and I wonder if it's possible to use animated texture maps with Maxwell. It seems that MR simply ignores my QuickTime movies. Is there a specific workflow or method to use animated texture?

Thanks a lot in advance

I'm not clear on what you mean. Do you mean that you want to render an animation, where each frame uses a particular frame from your QuickTime movie? If so, it may be possible if you use a Cinema material. If you mean that you want to render one image, in which you see the QuickTime movie playing in the scene, then no, that's not possible.

Thanks for your quick answer.

Yes, I want to render out an animation and for each frame the appropriate image from the QT should be used. I'm already using a C4D material, but the images/QT frames are currently ignored by MR. I can see the correct results in the C4D render view, but not in MR. I'm pretty sure that I'm just doing something wrong here. Maybe it's a problem with the codec and I'll try a few alternatives.

I can't check it out immediately here, but what you'd want to do would be to look at one of your MXS files in Studio and see how the Cinema material is being converted. During export, the plugin will be asking the Cinema shader to render a texture to TGA for use in the resulting Maxwell material; the question will be whether or not the shader is rendering that TGA when its input file is a QT movie.

Okay, don't waste any of your time -- it will not work currently, but it initially appears I can change things so that it will work in the future.

Thank you very much for your quick help and the confirmation of my observation. I really appreciate this and look forward to a new plugin version with QT support.

I have posted links to a 2.5.1.5 release preview (see here) which includes this support, so you may wish to give it a try.
