It's been a while since I've used Maxwell and recently updated to v2.5 for a project and ran into an old problem I remember having before but I searched the forum and couldn't find any solutions. Would someone be so kind to offer some advise.

1. In rendering a glass object, if the model is a primitive is looks fine, but if I use an extruded spline it renders black. Again, I remember running in to this years ago but I cannot seem to find a way around it.

2. When using one of the Maxon supplied 3D characters (Casual 09 - Stand) she is showing a weird transparancy through the different materials. I'm sure it has something to do with the layers and alphas, but I cannot find anything there either. Has anyone else run into anything like this?

Thanks in advance,

On the first question, the basic problem is that when it extrudes, Cinema produces multiple pieces, and that doesn't work for a dielectric object in Maxwell. So, you need to perform Current State to Object on the extrude, then Connect the resulting polygons to end up with a suitable mesh.

On the second question, it is because the Cinema shader is not writing an alpha mask; if you use the Convert Materials command to convert the material inside of Cinema, you can see that the layer mask map that's generated is the same as the one generated for the reflectance 0 map. I'm not sure whether I can do anything about this code-wise, but I'll check it out. For the time being, what would be necessary would be to edit the generated mask map so it's really an alpha, and then check the 'Alpha Only' box in the Maxwell layer mask.

Thanks, I thought I tried connect already but I must have made a mistake.

And thanks for the information on the alpha. I was trying to compare that figure that did not convert correctly to some of the others that did. I really don't know enough yet about the material system.

Nice plugin btw, good job.
