while waiting for an integrated support in the LW plugin for exporting native LW lights as geometry, i asked a friend to code a simple version of a tool which places clones of a chosen object (for example, a light poly with maxwell emitter surface...) at the positions of light in a LW scene. the nice thing is that it respects position, scale (which means 1:1 match in case of area lights!) and rotation of the selected lights. with the 'Scene2Modeler' script (also for free on the same site) you can even save groups of clones as one LWO - which is handy if you need light rigs saved as one geometry.
sven, the author, very generously offers both scripts (and others) to download for free on his site: http://svenart.de/
there's also a thread about this on NT forums here: http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104013
