Hi !

This is new ..

I'm on Maya 2015 with the newest Maya plugin.

I reinstalled the plugin over the existing installation, tried to deactivate the plugin, restarted my machine, but the Maxwell shelf stays empty.. What could this be ?


Any input welcome !

Try this:

1. Uncheck autoload for the Maxwell plug-in.
2. Delete the Maxwell shelf.
3. Restart Maya.
4. Check "autoload" again for the Maxwell plug-in, but don't check "load".
5. Restart Maya, so that it automatically loads the Maxwell plug-in next time, which in turn should create the shelf from scratch.

If this doesn't work, can you check if you have any error messages in the script editor? Which OS are you using?

The error wouldn't have a "Maxwell" prefix, it would be something that Maya says itself, not the plug-in. That's all you have in the script editor after startup?

The shelves are MEL scripts stored in %userprofile%\Documents\maya\<version>\prefs\shelves (or similar directory for other OSes; you can get the exact path by running the MEL command "internalVar -userShelfDir" inside Maya). Can you check what's inside the shelf_Maxwell.mel file in that directory?

That looks right. The .deleted files are backups which Maya makes when you remove a shelf, in case you later change your mind, but they shouldn't cause any trouble. Something else must be wrong, I'll make some more tests to see if I can reproduce this.

GOT IT !

I had 2 other issues with the UI in Maya that seemed very strange. So I contacted Autodesk support.

They stated that sometimes UI issues can come up if the preferences are garbled.
Resetting them to the default made all my issues go away:

Now also the Maxwell shelf loads properly after restarting Maya !

Oh, I'm sorry I didn't suggest resetting the preferences earlier. I've seen this "procedure" solve weird problems before, but it slipped my mind somehow. Anyway, I'm glad you sorted it. Thanks for having the patience to figure it out. :)
