Hey there again,
Is it possible to "explode" (or bind in "autocad language") MXS references so they become "real" part of the Maya scene?

didn't mean that... I have a scene with lots of MXS refs and now I need to "explode" them so I'll be able to edit same MXS instance but with different materials...so instead of the same green tree I'll have green one, and yellow one, and one without leaves, etc....without placing again all the files inside the scene.

You can change material assignments for an MXS reference. Click the "Override Materials" button in the attribute editor for the reference and you will get a list of objects in the MXS file. You can then select a new material from the current scene for each object. If you leave a field empty, that object will keep using the material assigned to it in the MXS file.
