Hello,

we are experiencing a problem at the moment.

we have 8 render nodes, on each we can render with Maxwell via the Maxwell Network or render on MentalRay via backburner and 3DS MAX

2 cases when we launch a maxwellrender on network:

1) a render via backburner has already began.
Then the render via Maxwell is stopped at the "preprocessing data" moment... because render via backburner uses 100% of the UC and maxwell 0% ! The Maxwell render will never start even if the backburner task stops.

2) there's no render via backburner
Then the render via Maxwell begins... But, if a backburner task starts then it uses 100% of the UC, so Maxwell task decreases to 0% and finally is frozen within a couple of minutes...

We have tried to unchecked the case LowCPUPriority on Maxwell render settings in 3DSMAX : no changes...

We have tried to unchecked the case LowCPUPriority on Maxwell render settings in the Network Job Wizard : no changes...

On each node, in the preferences of the MaxwellRenderNodes we have set the Priority threads to Normal (instead of Low) : no changes...

Maxwell seems to be in any cases on a low priority Mode ! that means 0% of the UC if there is another task that uses UC.

The bad solution for the moment, is to go on the Windows task Manager on each rendernodes and set the priority of Maxwell process from low to normal... (very boring at each render and each node...). Then Maxwell process goes to 30% (if there is already a backburner task...not 50% why ???), so it can begin or don't freeze (depending the case 1 or 2)

So my question is : is it possible to set Maxwell on a Normal priority mode once for all ?

Do we have to use a render manager thats works with Maxwell and MentalRay/Vray together ? I even don't know if this solutions exists... :?
Hope you can help us...
Thanks

As long as you have 2 manager systems fighting for resources, there isn't going to be an elegant way to get them to play nice with each other, except perhaps restarting manager softwares or services.

Best bet is to go with a 3rd party manager that can handle both and manage resources for both MR and Maxwell.

We use Qube to do this and currently run about 10 different rendering applications on the same hardware, but there are others that will do this as well. Deadline, Rush, etc.
